Why I Write Books
I enjoy reading, but I love writing. I can’t really explain why, but I find it even easier to escape my everyday world when I write. It is like watching a movie and reading all at the same time. I see the scenes unfold in my mind and I draw the story from my subconscious.
I was talking with someone the other day and I explained how sometimes when I re-read my own work I don’t even remember writing the words. It is like I was not even present when the words were being placed on the pages.
Sometimes I write short stories, but what I really get a kick out of is full length novels where I can trickle the story throughout the pages & tie up all the little lose ends along the way (well most of them anyway). A complete novel is a place where you can plant little seeds for back story or sideways steps.
Most of all, I write books for my own sanity. Sure I would like others to read and enjoy them, but it is more important to me that I enjoy writing the story. Writing is my escapism; sure my life is good, great in fact, but sometimes everyone needs a little break from their everyday routine.
It doesn’t matter what you do in your spare time. Whether it is writing books, reading, painting, growing flowers, building projects, whatever; finding what really ‘floats your boat’ and making the time to do it can help you endure the more difficult days, the ones that we all have to endure from time to time.
What do you do for escapism?
