Will You Ever Find The Time?

Last post I talked about NOW, the present, being the right time for that new project you have been dreaming about. Because there is never really a right time for most changes in life. For seven years I struggled to squeeze my writing in around my ‘real’ day job; the one which paid the bills and kept food in my children’s mouths. I was working up to seven days a week, running the family business which often left me with very little time to write, read and learn what I needed to know about the writing business.

Finding Time

Since I published my debut book, many people have asked me how I ever found the time. The truth is, I never did find the time, it wasn’t lost after all. I had to make the time, plain and simple.

Do you remember when you were dating (or maybe you still are)? You would forget everything else, just to make sure you had time to have a shower, spray a little deodorant on and make sure you were at your absolute best before your date. Or when you took up that new sport or became a gym junkie. Every spare moment was spent sweating it out or practising your new found activity.

Finding time is about making time. Setting your priorities, planning the day out a little more thoroughly or in my case, simply ignoring the house keeping seemed to add quite a few spare hours to my week. I still keep my unfolded laundry in baskets (you notice the plural here) in my spare room where no one can find them. It is great when I get a little writers block, the laundry is always there for me, to take my mind of my writing for a while.

If what you want is important. If your dream is burning inside of you and occupying your mind constantly, then NOW is the time to make the time. Finding time is rewarding, it is empowering and finally getting the chance to explore that deep desire is fun.

What ever you do in this life, make sure it is fun! Here is a little quote from the late Steve Jobs “For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” and whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something”.
